The Newness

"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come (2 Cor. 5:17)"

Awwwwwwww yeah! Once again once again. God has done it once again! Another year has come, bringing excitement, resolve and anticipation. The New Year, and new decade, also brings an opportune time to embrace the concept of Newness.

The Niceness of Newness
Newborn babes, early mornings, appliances, love and money are all particularly attractive because of newness. We all know the exhilaration of a new start and the determination of a new beginning. We remember well how geared up, focused and dressed up we got for a new job, new school year or a second chance. It is good for us to feel that way about the New Year, but even more so for the New Life in Christ Jesus. Indeed, if we would be excited, exhilarated, geared up, dressed up, focused and determined about our Christianity, then we would by necessity be the same of every day we live. There is nothing nicer than the New Life in Christ.

The Numbness of Newness
Beware of a cavalier, wasteful attitude about newness. Many have played the 'there's always tomorrow' or 'God will understand' card to their own demise. The heinous thing is that procrastination, wastefulness and laziness produces a lethargic, desensitized, unconcerned attitude about life. The symptoms of such is seen in a nonchalant approach to new opportunities, an unwillingness to change a negative situation, and an unrepentant life of sin. Misusing newness is the same as abusing grace - A failed life with beautiful confessions. Make good use of the New Life in Christ.

The Nearness of Newness
Be aware and have no doubt that every New Year, indeed , every new day draws closer to the return of the Lord. Time is passing and He is coming. These new days are clicks on the clock of the end of time. This is not to scare you but to prepare you. Don't let the newnesses of life lull you into a false sense of sameness. Life is not about the next day or year. It is about pleasing our soon coming Lord and Christ. He will soon shatter irreparably the system and cycle of days and seasons. When He comes He will bring eternal rewards and eternal retribution. So then get ready and stay ready so you can be ready when He comes back.

In this New Year season remember to celebrate the New Life in Christ. Purpose to make the best use of the newness He brings.
